This system is ideal as an education tool. The UCS30 is available in three different models, with 1024, 2048 or 4096 channels of conversion gain. The complete system includes a NaI(Tl) scintillation detector with lead shield and multi-position sample stand, a set of 8 gamma emitting radioisotope sources with an “unknown”, MCA software with ISOMATCH peak identification and a lab manual of experiments in gamma spectroscopy on CD.
USB connectivity provides plug and play operation with most of computers running Windows or Mac. The UCS30 Advanced Spectrometer System is capable for conducting a wide selection of spectroscopy experiments. This external unit interfaces through a USB port and features a 1K, 2K or 4K channel MCA with internal preamplifier, computer controlled amplifier, high voltage (0-2048V), upper / lower level discriminators and multichannel scaling for half-life and decay studies. Also included is a Mossbauer interface and preamplifier power output (±12 V) for connecting detectors with external preamplifiers such as proportional counters and CdZnTe probes.
Input: BNC connector – connects to scintillation detector or pre-amplifier for a detector
Output: MHV connector
High voltage: 0 to +2048 volts, computer controlled in 2 volt increments
Display: Computer
Control: USB 2.0
Power: AC adapter
Channels of conversion gain: 1024 (1K), 2048 (2K), and 4096 (4K)
The UCS30 interfaces with the UCX software with the isotope identification feature – ISOMATCH. The software allows the user to match the energy spectrum spectrum with the emission components of each nuclide present.
The RSS8 contains eight different gamma emitting isotopes covering the entire energy range from 32 keV to 1333 keV. Also included in the set is a mixed source of Cs-137 and Zn-65 which students may use to identify an “unknown” isotope. The set consists of Ba-133, Cd-109, Co-57, Co-60, Cs-137, Mn-54. Na-22, each at 1 uci.
The SPA38, complete scintillation detector assembly includes our SDA38, NaI(Tl) scintillation detector, a 3 ft BNC cable, a 3ft MHV cable, a 10 position sample stand, a lead shield, and a sample tray.
The SDA38, sodium iodide (NaI) scintillator is primarily used for detecting low levels of gamma radiation. It consists of 1.5 in. x 1.5 in. (38.1 mm x 38.1 mm – diameter x thickness), NaI crystal coupled to a photomultiplier tube.
