The 6150AD series features a portable, battery operated dose rate meter to measure photon radiation (gamma and X-radiation). A built-in Geiger Mueller counting tube serves as the detector. As implied by the letters »AD« in its name, the 6150AD displays the current dose rate in both analog and digital form. It measures dose rate mean value, dose rate maximum value, and accumulated dose. The 6150 AD series includes a built-in GM counter and additionally provides a probe socket to connect external probes. If an external probe is connected, the internal counting tube is automatically shut off. The external detector of the probe takes over. The type of the probe is automatically recognized. Display range and units are chosen automatically according to the type of the probe. Furthermore, there is no fixed assignment between probe and instrument. The user may connect any probe with any 6150AD, where probe indication will not depend on the 6150AD in use. One pin of the probe socket serves as serial interface and can be used to transmit and evaluate the display (dose rate) of the instrument on a PC. Cables to connect external probes may be up to 100 m long (depending on probe type). Standard lengths available from stock are 1.25 m, 3 m, 10 m, 20 m, 75 m, and 100 m. The 6150ADn series is powered by a 9V-battery (IEC 6LR61).
The basic 6150AD models are 6150AD1 to 6150AD6, henceforth generally designated as “6150ADn” (where n stands for 1 to 6). Models 6150AD1/3/5 have the same range of up to 1 Sv/h. They only differ in number and extent of functions, that is in software (EPROM). The 6150AD3 was the more intelligent successor of the 6150AD1. The 6150AD5 is again the successor of the 6150AD3 with additional support for the scintillator probe 6150AD-b. Likewise, models 6150AD2/4/6 have a range of up to 10 mSv/h, where the 6150AD4 was the more intelligent successor of the 6150AD2, and the 6150AD6 again corresponds to a 6150AD4 with additional support for the scintillator probe. In that sense models 6150AD1 to 6150AD4 are outdated (but are still available, particularly the models 6150AD1 and 6150AD2 for those users who prefer easier operation of a simple model). The following table summarizes all models 6150AD1 to 6150AD6 with their essential features.
Range up to | Additional Functions | Supports probe 6150AD-b | |
---|---|---|---|
6150AD1 | 1 Sv/h | no | no |
6150AD3 | yes | ||
6150AD5 | yes | ||
6150AD2 | 10 mSv/h | no | no |
6150AD4 | yes | ||
6150AD6 | yes |
The additional functions comprise: protection against unintentionally switching off, non-volatile storage of the dose measured with the internal tube, dose alarm, programmable alarm thresholds for dose and dose rate, better resolution (more places after the decimal point) when indicating dose, alarm threshold, etc.
